The plant is located 100 Km south of ALigudarz city in Lorestan Province, situated upstream of the right abutment of the Roudbar Lorestan Dam. The project site is positioned at 32o 3.910’ N latitude and 49o 67.3’ E longitude.
The prefeasibility studies and feasibility studies were carried out by the Ghodss Niroo-Halcrow Consortium from 2003 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2009 respectively. The phase I studies and their review were completed by the Poyry-Mahab Consortium from 2009 to 2012. The phase II studies were undertaken by Mahab Ghodss from 2012 to 2014. The construction of essential structures commenced in 2012.
Storage of hydropower potential through a pumping system during periods of low load on the national power grid.
