Mahab Ghodss has successfully inaugurated and commissioned the Uma Oya Multipurpose Dam and Power Plant project in Sri Lanka
The Uma Oya project, the world’s deepest underground hydroelectric power plant, is located at a depth of 750 meters below the surface. Designed and constructed in Sri Lanka, this facility facilitates water transfer from water-abundant regions to water-scarce areas and is now fully operational.
Mahab Ghodss’s engineering milestones for this project encompass the excavation of a 15 km tunnel, the development of a two-dam complex linked by the aforementioned tunnel, and the construction of the world’s largest vertical water conveyance shaft (600 m).
